Boston fern likes bright scattered light. The common cultivation method is to plant it in peat soil. Because it is a shade-tolerant plant, it needs to be cultivated indoors in a well-ventilated place. So what else should we pay attention to during maintenance?
Soil requirements
Potted plants should use a mixed culture soil of humus soil, river sand and garden soil. If possible, sphagnum moss can be used as a medium to grow better. Repot every other year in spring.
Watering method
The principle of watering is to keep it moist. Boston fern has strict requirements on moisture. It should not be too wet or too dry. It is better to keep the pot soil moist at all times. In summer, you can spread some wet sand on the ground around the flowerpot and spray some water to increase the ambient humidity. When the room temperature is low in winter, watering should be reduced and the soil should be kept slightly moist.
In summer, water can be 1~2 once a day, but in winter, the amount of watering should be controlled. Spray water to the plants and surrounding environment 2 to 3 times a day to increase air humidity. In autumn and winter, wait until the soil is semi-dry before watering. If the plant wilts due to lack of water, the entire pot can be soaked in water to rejuvenate, and the leaves can be sprayed more. If it has not returned to its upright position after being soaked for 24, you may want to cut off all the leaves to promote the growth of new leaves. The root system of Boston fern is weak and extremely sensitive, so the fertilizer concentration should not be too high, otherwise it will be easily injured. However, ferns like fertile and water-retaining soil, so the best way is to add decomposed manure when potting, and then top-dress with thin fertilizer in the future. When fertilizing, avoid contaminating the leaves with fertilizer liquid. If it is accidentally contaminated, rinse it with clean water immediately. In addition to using culture soil and decomposed compost as the cultivation medium, coarse sand can be added to avoid excessive sticking. Remember to base the bottom of the pot with coarse gravel and small stones first.
Repot
Generally, pots are changed 1 times in spring every 1 year. The potting soil is mainly composed of leaf mold soil and a small amount of river sand. If conditions permit, moss and other materials can be used as the cultivation substrate, and the growth will be better. Also, Boston Fern. It likes a warm environment. The suitable growth temperature is 15~25℃. The overwintering temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees. In winter, the room temperature should be kept above 6℃. If the old leaves in the lower layer are found to be withered and yellow, they should be cut off in time to keep the plant shape beautiful.
