Cultivation methods and precautions for purple jiaohua

Cultivation methods of Purple Jiaohua

Soil

Purple Jiaohua does not have strict soil requirements and tolerates poor soil. But it blooms vigorously on fertile, well-drained sandy loam or loam.

The culture soil should be mixed with leaf mold soil, sandy soil and garden soil in a ratio of 1:1:1. Apply fully decomposed compost and a small amount of bone meal as base fertilizer on the bottom of the basin.

Temperature and light

Temperature: Zijiao flowers like high temperatures and are heat-resistant. The suitable growth temperature is between 24-30 degrees Celsius.

Lighting: Purpurea loves light. Full sun or half sun is ideal for cultivation, but it should not be shaded.

Water and fertilizer management

Watering: Watering only needs to keep the pot soil moist, but it must be watered appropriately and frequently during the peak growing season and in dry weather. Sprinkle water around the pots to increase air humidity. The pot soil should not be too wet, otherwise the bulbs will rot easily.

Fertilization: Generally, dilute liquid fertilizer is applied 2-3 times during the growth period to promote the growth and development of seedlings. When the buds are about to bloom, apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer 1-2 times to ensure that the seedlings have sufficient nutrition during the bud and flowering stages. This will not only make the flowers large and bright, but also promote the development of the bulbs.

When planting in a large area, pay attention to ventilation and proper shading. If planting in a small area or in pots, a bracket should be set up for ornamental varieties with many flowers and slender branches to prevent the flower branches from breaking.

Propagation methods

Zijiaohua can adopt various propagation methods such as scale propagation, bulb propagation, bulb propagation, and sowing propagation.

Umbrellas, slender and upright flower stems drawn out from the leaves, with 10 small pink-purple or lavender flowers on the top, are quite beautiful. Purpurea blooms in May in East China, and the flowering period can last until November.

Farmer compost such as bean cakes and vegetable cakes should be added appropriately during the flowering period of Zijiaohua, so that the flowering period lasts for a long time and the flowers are bright and beautiful.
