Magnolia can be grafted by bud grafting, and the time can be selected from September to October. The rootstock can be a purple magnolia of the same family, or a Xinyi sapling. Cut off the branches with abundant axillary buds from the mother plant, cut off the bud pieces from the branches, and cut off a cortex of similar size at the grafted position of the rootstock. Fit the grafted bud into the rootstock where the cortex has been cut off, and then wrap the outside tightly with tape. Pay attention to maintenance after the grafting is successful.

Magnolia can be budded. This method is best performed in September-October every year, when the temperature is maintained above 20 degrees Celsius and the temperature is relatively suitable. , can facilitate germination and growth, and it is easier to recover later.

2. Preparation

Before grafting, prepare the rootstock and scion. The rootstock can be purple magnolia of the same family or genus, or a magnolia sapling. The diameter of the base is about 1-2 cm thick. Select the Magnolia mother plant in good growth condition, and cut branches free from diseases and insect pests from the sunny side. The axillary buds on the upper side are required to be abundant. Remove all the leaves from the top of the scion, leaving part of the petiole. Cut crosswise from below the bud eye of the scion, about 0.8 cm away, all the way to the xylem, and cut off the bud pieces from above. The rootstock part also needs to be processed, and a similar size of cortex is cut off at the grafting position.

3. Start grafting

After the preparation work is completed, it is necessary to graft immediately. The grafted buds are inserted into the rootstock where the skin has been cut off, and then the outside is tightly wrapped with tape. Do not tie it too tightly or loosely.

After tying, cover the outside with plastic wrap to prevent rain and avoid affecting survival. After the grafting is successful, pay attention to maintenance. When the two grow well, the binding can be removed.
