Calamus likes light. Whether it is a ground plant or a potted plant, it should get as much sun as possible throughout the year. The more light, the better. Normally, keep the maintenance temperature at 20-25°C, keep water in the pot at all times during the growth period, and topdress every two months. Before winter comes, cut off the dead leaves on the above ground part of the plant and clean them up. In winter, when the plants are dormant, the soil should be kept slightly moist without fertilizing. When spring warms up next year, the plants can be repotted and replanted.

1. Lighting
1. Light
Calamus likes light. Whether it is planted on the ground near water or maintained in pots, it must be planted in an area with good light. More sunlight will help the plant accumulate nutrients and bloom and bear fruit.
2. Temperature
The most suitable temperature for the growth of calamus is 20-25℃. If the temperature is lower than 10℃, the calamus will stop growing. The lower the temperature, the lower the plant will be. The leaves will naturally turn yellow in winter. Overwinter by burrowing into the soil with underground stems.
3. Watering
Ground Plant to the water's edge. Keep the main buds close to the soil surface when planting. Irrigate 1-3cm of water. Find a large flower pot with a diameter of 40-50cm that does not leak. After planting the rhizome, expose the growing point to the soil. Add 1-3cm of water. And maintain a relatively stable water level.
4. Fertilization
Ground plants do not need to be fertilized. Pond mud itself is full of fertility. Potted plants need to apply base fertilizer to the bottom of the pot and topdress 2-3 times. The initial fertilization is mainly nitrogen fertilizer, and before heading and flowering, switch to phosphorus and potassium fertilizer, and apply the fertilizer into the soil below 5cm.
5. Pruning
Every year Before the coming of winter, cut off the dead leaves on the above ground part of the plant, clean them up, drain the water in the pot, keep the soil slightly moist, and wait until next spring to change the pots and divide the plants and replant them.
6. Attention
The calamus mentioned here is also called stinky calamus and water calamus. The flowers bloom yellow, but they are not smelly in themselves, but have a fragrance. They are often used as flowers on the banks of waterscapes. The green plant is not the same cultivated ornamental species as Acorus calamus.
